Damn site seems to have been down for the last hour or so.. i've been trying to write to my not girlfriend and i cannot do so because the stupid jailmail server is down. again. this happens WAY too damn often. it's almost as if they have FAR more traffic than their server(s?) can facilitate; which is strange because there is no shortage of revenue being sucked in by the U.S. incarceration industry, whether it be charging people exorbitant amounts simply to talk to a loved one or to have any communication with them whatsoever, or perhaps the egregious offense is the insanely overpriced commissary items available through jail facilities (averaging 3-10x the cost of those same items on the street)? No, it's really mostly the fact that this country has literally criminalized addiction and has been systematically locking people up for merely suffering from an affliction while simultaneously refusing them any helpful rehabilitative services and instead offering hardline, bullshit, abstinence-only, 12-step-based programs from which people will often graduate only to come home and fucking die from an overdose less than a week from their release. know what would prevent this? not fucking locking people up for being in active addiction. what about maybe trying to offer people help, assistance, guidance? even if they have actually committed a real world offense and have not merely been found in possession of a substance they CHOOSE to purchase and imbibe, well guess what helpful programs you could have access to should you be so lucky as to get locked up in a jail for a year or two? absolutely fuckall, that's what. you can go to bible study once a week! some jails offer AA meetings. know what's not entirely necessary in fucking jail? goddamn AA meetings. those are, you know, for when you're wanting to drink alcohol, perhaps even craving it; and some people prefer illicit drugs to alcohol. those people are wrong and apparently now deserve to die by the thousands due to a tainted drug supply, brought on by cost-cutting measures and a "whatever's the cheapest," mentality taken toward the manufacturing of said substances.. it doesn't cost THAT much more to produce FAR safer products, but there's no oversight in clandestine, illegal operations. legalize, regulate, and over time, usage will even out and likely diminish significantly within the population as a whole over time (see Portugal for a prime example of how legalization and regulation helped save thousands of lives and gave hope to an entire community of people who were otherwise destined to be nothing but statistics).. but, yeah, let's keep locking people up, not offering them any help or assistance either while they are in jail or when they are re-entering back into society woefully unprepared because jails do NOTHING for people but provide punitive measures imposed by the state (or country), and VERY little else. fuck smartjailmail, fuck the jail system in this country, fuck the war on drugs, and fuck every single judge who has EVER incarcerated anyone for possession, sale, delivery, or manufacturing of substances that they CHOSE TO POSSESS, SELL, OR DELIVER!! jesus, spend your time on something the rest of the population actually WANT you to accomplish, like how about universal healthcare? maybe we eventually make some changes that benefit those in our society who actually NEED some assistance rather than the system being rigged to only benefit those who are in charge of the damn rigged system. funny how that works. boo. fuck every prosecutor, DA, and judge in this country (and every other one) who believes its their duty to infringe on citizen's rights by dictating what they are and are not allowed to ingest, when and where it's "allowed," and oh by the way this is all subject to change at any time.. why? because fuck you, that's why. have a nice day. fuck twelve.
