If sam.gov is up actually and appears down only for you then follow these troubleshooting steps or you can search for an alternative.
If sam.gov is actually down then you can resolve the issue by doing following:
Wait for the site going up again.
Post an inquiry at its forum, twitter or Facebook Page.
Search here for an alternative.
If sam.gov is not connecting or not working right now for you then try its alternatives.

I had the same experience as Adam (below) but after clicking on "Update" to try and verify that no changes had been made, it logged me out. After logging back in, my entity is no longer listed in my workspace and I cannot access it. And I have to log back in about every 1-2 minutes.
Everyone is getting the same weird email, which is not legit (of course) but it came from within SAM.gov. Their site is completely down at the moment. I was able to login to our accounts right after receiving the weird email, and all was well...could be another breach...???
